Dental implants are a long-term solution for tooth loss. Like most dental procedures and treatments, there are several options from which to choose, as more than one type of implant exists.
By understanding the major types and what your options are, you can make an informed decision for the betterment of your dental health.
Main Types of Dental Implants
When it comes to choosing dental implants, there are generally two main types from which you can select:
•
Subperiosteal implants. These implants include a metal frame that is fitted on the jawbone just under the gum tissue. When the gum tissue heals, the frame will fuse to the jawbone. Connected to the frame are small abutment posts that will protrude out from the gums. The artificial tooth is then mounted onto that post.
•
Endosteal implants. These implants are placed directly into the jawbone via a safe, surgical procedure. When the surrounding gum tissues have healed, a subsequent surgery connects the abutment post to the implant. The last step is the placement of the artificial tooth or teeth. Endosteal implants are an option if you are in need of a group of teeth or bridge.

Your Dental Implant Consultation
To determine if dental implants are right for you, the first step is to have a consultation. We will thoroughly examine your gums and teeth, evaluating the quantity and density of the jawbone. In some cases, this may involve x-ray imaging to ensure you have enough bone structure to place the implants.
Based on the health of your mouth, your oral hygiene routine, and your commitment to follow post-care instructions, we can advise on the treatment plan that will work best for you. Give us a call today to learn more about our dental implant services.
