Dental Bonding
Mesa, AZ

Your smile is quite often the very first thing that people notice about you. Even without speaking, it can say a lot and can leave a lasting impression. Your teeth are an essential part of a beautiful smile. Even the smallest imperfections can greatly mar its quality. You may become self-conscious, and refuse to smile at all. At Timothy H. Kindt, DDS, we can help to restore the beauty of your smile with dental bonding, both a restorative and cosmetic dental procedure.

What Is Dental Bonding?

Bonding is a simple fix for minor imperfections in your teeth. It can be used for such things as small chips or cracks, gaps between your teeth, misshapen or small teeth, and even discoloration. The material used for the bonding procedure is a composite resin, which is made up of fine glass, plastic, and other materials. Bonding is very versatile and can be shaped and molded as needed to fit a variety of different needs.

Why Have Bonding?

The composite resin material blends in perfectly with the color of your natural enamel, making it an excellent aesthetic fix for the small imperfections in your visible teeth. This is only one of the benefits. Other benefits of bonding include:
•  Bonding is affordable. It is one of the least expensive options available for correcting tooth imperfections.
•  The procedure is completely painless. There is no need for any anesthetic.
•  The procedure is quick, and usually takes less than an hour, sometimes even less than 30 minutes, to complete. There is no need for subsequent visits.
•  Bonding restores your confidence. With the appearance of your teeth restored, you can smile confidently again.

How Is Bonding Placed?

The process for placing your bonding is quick, simple, and completely pain-free. There is no need for anesthesia or sedation of any kind. We begin by cleaning and drying your teeth. An acid etch gel is then placed on the surface of the affected teeth. The acid creates a rough texture, which helps the material to more effectively bond. The gel is washed away, and the teeth dried again. Bonding is applied and then shaped as needed. We then dry the material with a special light, hardening it. Once dry, we then polish the material to a smooth finish. You leave the office the same day with a completely restored smile.

Does Bonding Require Special Care?

While bonding is effective at restoring your teeth, it does have some disadvantages. The material is not as strong as some other restorative options. It can be susceptible to cracks or chips, which leads to the need for new applications. It can also stain easily, and the staining cannot be corrected with whitening. These disadvantages are minor and can be avoided with proper care. Avoid biting down on anything too hard, such as ice, popcorn kernels, and your fingernails. You should also avoid, or at least limit, foods that stain, and avoid habits like smoking.

Other than these considerations, bonding can be, and should be, taken care of just like you would take care of your natural teeth. You should continue to brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss once daily. Regular dental visits are also critical for spotting and preventing oral health issues, as well as assessing the condition of your bonding.

If minor imperfections have you hiding your smile, you may benefit from bonding. Call Timothy H. Kindt DDS at (480) 939-5818 today for more information and to schedule your consultation.
