Same Day Dental Crown
Mesa, AZ

Woman smiling wide after getting new same day dental crowns at Timothy H. Kindt, DDSYour teeth are the hardest substance in your body. They are even harder than bone. However, just because they are hard, this does not mean they are indestructible. Taking care of your mouth, including regular brushing and flossing as well as wearing the appropriate protective gear when playing sports, can help to keep the teeth strong and healthy.

However, even with the best possible care, it is still possible for accidents to happen. The teeth can face decay or damage, which can then compromise their strength. A compromised tooth is at risk of facing further damage as well as painful infections. At Timothy H. Kindt, DDS, we can help to restore damaged teeth with same day dental crowns.

What Are Dental Crowns?

Crowns are dental restorations that are designed to fit over the entire visible part of a natural tooth. It has a few basic functions. The crown is designed to hold a damaged tooth together, which helps to prevent further damage. It provides protection, keeping out oral bacteria and preventing infections. It provides the tooth with strength so that it can continue to function. Crowns also help to prevent the need for a tooth extraction.

How Are Crowns Usually Done?

Dental crowns typically take two visits. The first visit is when the tooth is prepared, and impressions of your mouth are made. Preparing the tooth involves removing a portion of your enamel. This is done to make room for your restoration so that it fits naturally in with the rest of your teeth. After the tooth is prepared, impressions are taken. The impressions are sent to a dental lab where the crown is designed and prepared.

With the traditional crown procedure, it can take up to two weeks for the final restoration to be finished. You would then wear a temporary crown while you waited. Once the final crown is completed and sent back, you go in for your second visit. At this visit, the crown is checked for fit and cemented into place.

Dental Crowns in One Visit

Having to wait two weeks, or more, for your final restoration is not only irritating, but it also raises your risk for complications. While the temporary crown is meant to protect your prepared tooth while you wait, it does not have the same abilities to protect your teeth as your permanent crown does. We can help you avoid the need for a temporary crown, and the need for a second visit, with crowns in a day.

This is possible thanks to dental technology. After your tooth is prepared, we take digital impressions of your mouth, and the images appear on a computer screen. On the computer, we use specialized software that allows us to design a crown based on the exact specifications of your mouth. We are even able to customize the color. After the crown is designed, the information is sent to an in-house milling machine. A ceramic block is placed inside, and the tooth is milled from that block and fired in an oven. As soon as it is finished, we can check it and cement it into place. This whole process is done with you still in the office.

Crowns help to restore damaged teeth, providing them with the strength and protection they need to function normally. However, having to wait weeks before your final restoration can put your oral health in danger. It can also just be aggravating to wait that long and require a second visit.
